Malta is known for its diverse culinary scene, with a wide range of international cuisines available for locals and tourists to enjoy. One particular cuisine that has been gaining popularity in recent years is authentic Indian cuisine. With its exotic flavors, fusion dishes, and spice-infused menu, Indian food has become a favorite among food enthusiasts in Malta.

Starting Point
Garam Masalaa, a restaurant specialising in Indian and Middle Eastern cuisine in Qawra, Malta decided to take their brand identity to the next level by undergoing a makeover that would reflect the vibrancy and richness of Indian culture and cuisine.
The dining experience is enhanced with a beautiful view of the azure paradise of the Mediterranean reflecting the vibrant colours of the sun-kissed coastline of Qawra.

Modern twist on traditional recipes
Many culinary delights await at this hidden gem in Malta.
The restaurant, known for its authentic Indian cuisine, makes their own spice mixes, roasting and grinding them to give real flavour. Paneer (cottage cheese) is a key menu item that is made in-house.
Kulfi, a classic dessert, has been given a modern twist in the restaurant menu, making the mango kulfi ice cream (made in-house) a must try.
Communication Challenge
It was felt that the existing brand identity (logo) could enhance its visual effect to faithfully reflect the vibrancy and richness of Indian culture and cuisine.
With a revamping of its digital presence on the cards, the first step in the Brand identity makeover was to revamp the restaurant's logo.

User Experience Design Process
Embarking on a transformative journey through the flavours of India.
The brand identity transformation process is similar to the entire process of creating a new brand identity. The UX design process needs to be visualised and followed through as this is essential in creating a strong foundation for branding.
Research and Inspiration
Garam Masalaa's new design takes inspiration from sources as varied as traditional Indian spices, art and architecture. It also keeps in mind client demographics and their perceptions of Indian culture.
Indian style shapes in a logo may include intricate mandalas or paisley patterns. Colours commonly used in Indian design are vibrant and rich, such as deep reds, oranges, blues, and golds.
These colors are often combined with earthy tones like browns and greens to create a harmonious and visually striking symbol that captures the essence of Indian culture and heritage. The font's flowing lines and intricate embellishments evoke a sense of beauty and sophistication, reminiscent of the intricate patterns found in Indian textiles and architecture.

The restaurant's brand identity makeover not only helps to attract new customers but also solidifies its reputation as a go-to destination for Indian food in Malta. By staying true to their roots while embracing modern trends, the restaurant is able to create a unique dining experience that leaves a lasting impression on all who visit.
